Bestowing of medals of Sport Fame

0408_lm.jpgJust before the start of the 5th round of the Women’s Grand Prix in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the Chairman of Physical Culture and Sport Department of Mongolia Ch.Naranbaatar bestowed the certificate and Badge of “Honored Sports Person for contribution to Sports Development in Mongolia” to FIDE General Secretary Ignatius Leong and Georgian GM Maia Chiburdanidze. This is the highest award given to the field of sport in Mongolia.

In 2002 Mr.Leong, then a Zonal President was appointed as FIDE Technical Advisor to the World University Championship, organized by FISU (World University Sports Federation) held in Ulaanbaatar. In 2009, Mr. Leong conducted the first ever Arbiters’ seminar at the premises of the National Olympic Committee. Currently, Mr. Leong is Chief Arbiter at the Ulaanbaatar Women’s Grand Prix.

Ms. Chiburdanidze was honored for being Women’s World Champion for 5 times and for still playing actively and being a role model for the youths. 0408_leong2.jpg0408_maia.jpg
